Darkstryder - Templar - Level 20
Minions.
Gems:
Glacial Hammer
Firestorm
Spark - Shoots 3 sparks that float randomly and hit targets.
Raise Zombies - Support 30% minion health
Raise Skeletons
Decoy Totem
Zombie-sicles Build
Not sure if I will keep the zombies. Depends on how the build goes. Not spending passive points atm since I am not sure where I want to go with him.
Replaced Ice Pulse with Fireball. Same results just fire instead of cold.

Spidubic - Marauder - Level 15
My group dude. Will most likely go with a mix of damage and survivability. Gems will be mostly AoE since in the group I find it hard to target mobs.
Gems:
Heavy Strike - ST
Cleave - AoE
Shield Charge
Leap Slam - AoE

Much like Ash my gem drops have been pretty much cold based. Which is okay but works against having the raise zombies gem. So I need to decide which route to go. Cold is working great so far but zombies could be cool as well but it looks like I would need several points put into the passive tree to make them viable. But having so much into them makes me leery as then if they die and I cannot raise any am I screwed? I do have the decoy totem gem which my Templar will keep as it is quite handy soloing.
Decisions decisions.

My experience with Zombies is that there is rarely a shortage of bodies to go around.
A nice complementary skill if you are raising undead is the summon skeletons gem.
They are weaker but don't require a body.
You are right though that the cold and zombie raising isn't neccesarily a great combo. Maybe look for a lightening AoE?
And if you really want to make a good necro type character, go up the tree to the Minion instability Keystone. (Top leftish)
Causes the minions to explode on death. Paired with the skeletons it's like a never-ending stream of little smart bombs.

He is only level 5 so I will hold off a bit and see what gems turn up before deciding where to go in the tree. Five points really won't help me a ton right now but maybe at level 10 when I can get a jump up a tree then it will be the right time. I guess knowing the passive skills I choose now I am stuck with unless I reroll I want to be semi sure of what I want. That is making my choices hard on my Marauder as I choose between one and two handed and then even further with maces or swords, axes, etc. I know I have passed on a yellow two hander because my Marauder was into the one hand tree.

I'm starting to save all my yellows for now. At least while I figure out what alts I'm going to play.
I've just been sort of clicking away on the passive tree online to get a general idea where I'm going.
Focusing a lot on crit I think. I figure if I do that it will make up for some of the other elements I'm not investing in and make them somewhat viable when things are resistant to cold.

Same here. All my yellows go into one bank tab with the extra gems. Sadly I have been debating buying the Premium Stash Tab bundle.
"Adds six extra premium tabs to your shared stash (at a discounted price). Premium tabs can have their name and colour changed whenever you want."
$20.
Hello my name is Amokk and I am a hoarder.

Okay I will look at it that way and not that I am a virtual item hoarder.
Looking at the Marauder tree I am thinking of going armor and increased life. Figure since he is my group dude we will likely have more than enough DPS to handle mobs so staying alive is the best plan.
