Year of F2P

Aion just announced it will be going F2P with the next patch. I am rather shocked at the sudden push for games going F2P. Not the ones that came out this way but the subscription MMOs that are changing to F2P. Is this going to be the year of the F2P? And is this going to change the MMO market? Who is going to front a big budget MMO like SWToR again if the model is F2P? Or are they actually getting more dollars this way? I use to think F2P would be awesome. I could pop in and out of games whenever I felt like it. Problem is I forget how to play the games if I am away for a while and getting back into them can be a pain. If 2012 is The Year of the F2P MMO will 2013 be The Year of the Return to Subscriptions?

Besides that i personally dont like the F2P model so i will pay the sub .. cant stand going to do something and it tells me i need to go to the store..
