re: Terra Open Beta impressions

So along with d3 tera was also in open beta. I expected nothing out of tera what little I knew about the game I kind of wrote it off as something I wouldn't like. I was wrong well at least about some of it.

First off getting use to the races in this game is definitely an acquired taste. It's very jrpg and anime with anthropomorphised characters, overly boobalicious women and even pedo type chars thrown in to make you feel extra squimish.

They throw you into a prologue where you're level 20 and fighting at that level which I guess is good for getting a quick feel of the game but that throws me off really I like growing into my characters. Luckily it's short sequence and they get you into the starting area pretty quickly.

After the prologue I about gave up on it but though I would press on. First thing I noticed beside the odd control scheme and action fighting was that everything felt solid. I mean that unlike most mmos you can't run through people or mobs they have a bounding box. For those of us that have played old school games and pvp you know how important that is, it adds another layer of tactics that you can use to your advantage.

The combat is action based. Think vindictous or dragon's nest but a little slower so you can actually plan your moves and it doesn't feel like your just constantly piling up the biggest numbers you can. It feels real and very responsive, I was impressed.

The questing system is very much like all the other mmo's. The game is very beautiful and I kind of like it.

Now is this game worth $50 and a recurring $15/month fee. Actually for me it might be. It's not going to replace rift or another non-action mmo as those are just different games this is almost a different genre of game.
Really put it in with those other 2 Vindictous and Dragon's nest and the difference is open world and not pay to win model thus having the sub.
I'm not suggesting anyone else play or like this game but if you are looking for a supplemental different style of play game it might hook you.

Dam you Dizz....

Well first 4-6 levels i was like wtf its Aion 2.0 twitch...

But i pushed on and it really starts to grow on ya the combat is fun and well paced , The Archer is shaping up and i feel in control ,with differnet approches to combat situations..

And altho some of the NPCs and mobs are hrmmm gender challenged in the Newbie area , it gets better as you progress..

Graphics are top notch , the first time i took a Flight Pegasus i was blown away .. Incredible vistas...

Gathering is cool as it gives you combat buffs the more you do it .. nice touch ...

Gotta look after the baby then im gonnatest a bit more tonite..

Another interesting note .. @ lvl 15 seems things are rampoing up a bit , nice challenge, now heres the kicker , was fighting a mob in Blood Run , went to do my melee combo , got the first off as normal , and then the mob ducked and rolled out right , i was like really wtf , thats great AI , really threw me and the collatteral affect is i need to pay more attention in combat , cant just spam .. attacks...
