re: SWTOR - A Week In

My first week of SWTOR has passed and so far so good. My main Jedi Knight Sentinel is level 17 with a ship and a couple of companions. I was not sure how I was going to like the voiced quest givers as I typically click the quest, accept, and move on. But so far it is quite cool. Almost like you are in the movie. The way the crafting is setup with companions being able to go out and do stuff while you are busy is a definite plus. Really makes it feel like you have a crew that works with you. Downside is really trying to figure out what mix of crafting to go with. I have reset mine twice and think I am satisfied now. My JK has no real healing so medpacs really are a must have. I also started a Trooper who just hit level 10 at which point I choose Commando for the big gun and the range. Wanted to go Vanguard but it sounded like he was more a melee class while I wanted ranged for my Trooper. He is now at the point where he is redoing quests my JK has done so I am putting him on the shelf for now. My next alt may be on the Empire side so I can experience that story line. We shall see.
I do have a couple of cons that may or may not be game breakers for me.
Having now leveled two characters to level 10 on the Republic side I have hit the point where the separate story lines come together and you start doing the same quests alongside your class quests. All MMOs have this so no biggie. The problem now is the voice quests. My Trooper talks to the same quest giver as my JK which means the quest giver says the same things to my Trooper as he did to my JK and my answers also so far seem to be the same options I had before. Which is leading to me pressing the spacebar to get through it faster since I already know what they will say.
My other issue is with the JK. For me a Jedi Knight uses his light saber alongside the Force. But in SWTOR my JK is a melee which means he uses his light saber for combat and the Force for buffs and of course Force Leap. Looking at the other JK classes I see the Sage who sounds like they have a light saber but it is more for show as it is rarely used. I know it likely would have made the JK too powerful compared to the other classes but I was really looking forward to using some Force powers along with my light saber. Force Leap into battle, attack with light saber, Force push the enemy back, toss my light saber, fling a rock, jump in for a slashing finish. Does not look like this is going to happen.

I do question its replayability tho , altho im not an alt person i can see where it would get repeitive ... But my goal is my main then the endgane RvR ... so all good for me .. i may runa healer up also

I wish they had a free trial because I'd like to check it out. Especially since Dizz has said that unless the game goes on sale, he's not playing it. So much for me being an influence. =P

Hit level 20 on my Jedi. Ran to the trainer thinking of all the coolness that must be awaiting me at 20. Open the menu...............upgrade to Force Leap.
I love Star Wars, love my Jedi, but somewhere along the line I have lost the incentive to log in and play. There is no reason for me to hit level cap, even hitting a milestone like level 20 gave me nothing but a minor upgrade to a skill. PvP offers me nothing as I don't like PvP. The way crafting is done is neat but I am really getting little benefit from it. So far it is more of a money sink than anything.
SWToR at least to me is going to be a one month and done waste of money.
I would really like to know why games are no longer holding my interest. Couple of weeks in and the excitement is gone. Actually I think I do know part of it. A the end of the day no matter the game the basics are the same from game to game. Grab quest, kill x mobs, return for reward. Rinse and repeat till cap then Raid.

Surprised at this Spid i really thot that this game would apeal to your solo nature, the combat is good and the story is enjoyable and immersive the first time thru it... And the crafting i have found useful and profitable...
But maybe you really have just soured to MMOs , as i look at your EQ2 post ... Or may be becuase we all arwent together in one game ,.. Which seems to be a problem again , i wuld jump in any game, if we all agreed on one ..

I really am surprised as well that SWToR has not held my interest. Maybe I need to get Taris done and move on. I think I might be in a lull storyline wise. As for crafting I like having the companions head out and do the harvesting or crafting although I wish I could do crafting as well. Maybe I just need to get a little further along in crafting, get my points up and get more recipes.
I may give it another month to see how it goes. Maybe run an alt up and try Guardian to see if they are any different from Sentinel. I have heard they are more versatile whereas Sentinel is pretty much DPS only.
Or maybe I am just soured on MMOs.

I realized on tatooine that i was in a rut story wise and progression wise, so i started making the storyline quests a focus - that helped me get to the mid twenties to the early thirties -
don't get hung up on one planet, and press yourself towards yellow quests rather than green - the space battles are also a good source of some extra money and xp - and if you see a group forming for a heroic quest in general chat, go ahead and send a tell, ive had some stinker groups, but overall doing heroics are worth it
- i just finished alderaan and act 1 of the storyline (i got my legacy name, henceforth i shall be know as Paingiver TheInebriated)

"Paingiver TheInebriated"
Awesome!
Need to check but I think I have finished the class quest on Taris so maybe I need to move along. I did get into two quests last night that told the back story of Taris from centuries ago and it was pretty cool.

re: SWTOR - A Week In

Went to swtor.com last night to see when I was going to be billed for the next month. Jan 20th. Decided to cancel before getting billed since I realized the chances of me playing SWTOR steady for another month was slim. Also realized perhaps where my lack of interest in MMOs has gone. SWTOR is an awesome game that so far I could level playing solo. But then if I am playing SWTOR solo why not play Skyrim and save $15 a month? And while the voiced quests lines were pretty cool it seemed like the only reason to answer questions a certain way was to gain affection points for my companion. Or not. Its not like my answers really made a difference to the outcome.
Oh well, onward to the next game!
UPDATE:
Of course after I wrote this I get looking around the interwebs and realize perhaps I am not the only one who has fallen off the SWTORtrain. Is SWTOR headed down the same road as Rift? A good MMO that will hold a decent population but not that WoW replacement or killer.
